4 Seasons of Reconciliation

Welcome to the Professional Development Portal

4 Seasons of Reconciliation is a multi-media teaching unit that promotes a renewed relationship between Indigenous Peoples and Canadians, through transformative learning. This educational initiative, developed  for secondary, post-secondary and the workplace incorporates teacher guides, slideshows, videos and films along with engaging online portals.

Based on the success of the grade 10 history unit and the Post-Secondary portals, this 3-hour online course was first piloted in January by the Prince Edward Island Education Ministry and the Borden Canadian Armed Force base. We hope you will take a few moments at the end of the course to fill out the short survey to help us improve this pilot unit for future learners. We rely on your feedback to improve the next version. Our resources are live documents which we improve every season with user-feedback and additional bonus films and video segments.

To begin

Scroll below to familiarize yourself with the 10 modules' themes and then click on the link at the bottom of the page 'Continue to Module 01' to begin.

In the first module you can test your knowledge with a short fun quiz on materials you are about to learn in the unit. Only the final quiz is evaluated.  A 70% final mark triggers a certificate of completion.

Learning Objectives

This Professional Development unit provides the basic foundational primer Canadians have not yet learned in school about Indigenous People and the relationship and history between Indigenous People and those who settled on their lands.

This unit aims to provide the learner with a basic primer overview which meets some of the objectives of the '94 Calls to Actions from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission'. This is new information to most Canadians.

This online unit is meant to enhance (not replace) local Indigenous knowledge. We hope that that it will provide a bridge that facilitates direct learning relationships with Indigenous Peoples, Nations and organizations as a result of a heightened awareness and understanding. With this foundational unit, connections with Indigenous Peoples are the natural next step we invite you to take. Online portals and multi-media elements cannot replace the importance of being in direct contact with the Indigenous Peoples in your region. Sitting down beside an Indigenous person and taking the time to listen and learn is a vital next step. We hope this learning serves as a building bloc to assist with those essential local connections.

Unit Overview

The Unit is comprised of 10 modules for a total of approximately 3hrs and 14 min. and is meant to be completed in sequence from 01 to 10. After the final quiz, a completion certificate will be emailed to you and your organization's point of contact (such as H.R.).
