In this introductory module, you will learn how the narrative of Canadian history is coloured by a colonial lens. We will re-examine history from Indigenous worldviews, and how our colonial past has affected the ways in which we see and speak of Indigenous people to this day.
- Identify possible cultural biases shaping Canada’s historical narratives.
- Explore historical events shaping the Canadian landscape of which they may not have been aware.
- Realize that most history books are written for and by dominant societies and rarely include Indigenous worldviews.
- Understand that Canadian is inherently a colonial state.
